Hello there! I'm Danielle, also known as Dandy. I'm a Jesus-lover, wife, mother of four, and a real-foodie who started this site to share inspirations from my heart and reflect on journeying toward simplicity and love. Read More…
I've been meaning to do this post for months. Months, I tell you! And here I am - posting a GAPS snacks roundup the night before Easter. The last minute is my favorite motivator. :( But it'll be around for next year's Easter, that's for sure! (Maybe I'm just super early?)
I've divided these snacks into types, and then in parentheses I'll list (to my best knowledge) which stage they would be appropriate for, as well as what changes might need to be made to make the recipe fully GAPS-legal. … [Read More...]
So let's get one thing straight: I have a tiny confession to make.
Prior to this week, I had never eaten meringue cookies.
Not even meringue pie.
So. . . when I was searching around the interwebs for something to do with my leftover egg whites, and came across meringue cookies, I decided to give it a try. I have always been way too intimidated to try anything like meringues which seem so technical, but I decided I'd rather try than waste even more egg whites. I hate wasting food!
The … [Read More...]
We eat it every single day. It makes any mediocre soup instantly amazing. The perfect veggie dip. Goes great with scrambled eggs. You can add so many healthy things to it and the flavor can be mellow or bold, depending on what mood you're in.
According to Dr. Mercola, they are:
high in potassium
full of healthy fats
provide folic acid
provide vitamin E
enhance nutrient absorption

All my life. . . I never knew.
It something our ancestors had ahold of, but I honestly never knew about this until I started the GAPS diet. And I think it's genius.
So let me inform you: there is a free side dish - more like a condiment - that comes with the meat you purchase.
You never knew either? Now I don't feel so bad. ;)
So here's the deal.
You know when you roast a chicken, or roast beef/pork, or any kind of meat, there's all these funny pieces left behind that nobody in … [Read More...]
Again, I wasn't even going to update this week, but I realized, in retrospect it was a pretty big week on the GAPS intro diet. I'll try to update quickly for those that are interested in our healing travels. (Travails?)
Last week, we left off with:
my oldest son eating a drop of raw egg yolk with NO reaction (woohooooo!)
my second son's eczema stabilizing
the younger two doing well with no complaints or issues
This week was a big week, because we celebrated a birthday! My oldest … [Read More...]
I kind of feel like a kid in a candy store right now.
I might have forgotten what candy tastes like, to be honest. I haven't had any in two months. But I used to love those little butterscotch hard candies - you know the ones? Mmmm.
And here's another thing I love: coffee.
I haven't had that in over two months, either. But I wasn't addicted to coffee, you see. I just enjoy coffee. I would brew some decaf at any time of day, just because I enjoy the flavor. I even met my husband in a … [Read More...]
********We have a winner! Mary P. - you've won!**********
I think it's time for another giveaway, don't you?
This month's giveaway will be a little different. I hope you'll like it - I know this is something I would love to win!
Several bloggers and I are teaming up to offer a Real Food Starter Kit giveaway. Doesn't that sound fun?
We all know that the transition to real food takes time, and also money for some new equipment. Even though practicing real food basics is worth … [Read More...]
Hey hey. I've decided to start sharing some of our family's favorite GAPS recipes. These recipes will almost always be quick and simple, because hey - GAPS meals already take long enough. One of the easiest things I make for my GAPS family is mashed carrots. This also happens to be their favorite.
Why, you ask? I'll tell you.
To a GAPS family, carrots are like candy. Carrots naturally contain a high amount of sugar, which seems to be brought out by cooking. This particular side dish I … [Read More...]
Hello there! This week's update will be short and sweet because:
a) only a few things changed, and
b) I'm exhausted! :)
So here goes:
Last week we had success introducing a drop of egg yolk to my oldest son who was previously allergic to egg yolks. Yayyy!!! Talk about a reason to celebrate! This week, I simply repeated the drop of egg yolk in his food. No reactions whatsoever. Then I increased the egg yolk a bit, and so far we are up to 5 drops of raw egg yolk in his food/soups with … [Read More...]
I've been sitting and thinking on this spaghetti squash recipe for a while. I think it's time to share it!
This is a simple recipe - it's as easy as combining some extra ingredients with your favorite spaghetti sauce, and adding these ingredients to roasted spaghetti squash.
We were eating our spaghetti squash and simply adding our favorite spaghetti sauce, and it was good. But then one day, I had some extra ingredients lying around and decided to toss them in.
BAM! Flavor … [Read More...]
