I’ll be the first to admit: I’m a little weird.
I can’t really figure out why I love making my own stuff at home. Sure, in our health journey I’ve learned a ton about the stuff most makeup manufacturers don’t want us to know. Same for hair, and body products.
But even before I knew all this, 20 years ago in high school I was melting red crayons in mineral oil on the stove, just so I could make my own lipstick. It worked really well, too, no joke.
Are you the same way? Do you love DIY projects, that you are so excited about but really don’t need to do because there’s a sink full of dishes that need to be washed? Haha. I’m not proud of my lack of desire to do the dishes, but sometimes I am pretty proud of my creations. And some of the most fun DIY projects include homemade makeup recipes.
If you’re a seasoned veteran of doing it yourself, or even if you’re just toying with the idea and not sure where to start, check out these 18 homemade makeup recipes. Surely there’s something there to spark your creative instincts. And be sure to share what you tried with us in the comments section!

What If I’d Rather Not Make My Own Homemade Makeup?
I gotcha. Sometimes it’s just easier just to place an order. The cleanest makeup/skincare company I’ve found yet has to be Beautycounter. Take a look here and see if there’s anything you’re ready to replace in your skincare/makeup regimen. Reach out to me if you have any questions, and remember, with Beautycounter, Band of Beauty members receive 15% product credit with each purchase and free shipping over $100. Beautycounter consultants always receive a generous 25% discount when purchasing.
Doing it yourself for the fun of it, for the simpler ingredients, is totally enjoyable and rewarding – you can also enjoy cleaner ingredients through Beautycounter. It’s pretty fun to receive product in the mail too… at least for me it is. 😉 Whatever you decide to do – have FUN! <3
I’m not sure if I would really wear it out in public but interesting idea.
Just so you know I read this article at 4:30am with a sink full of dirty dishes lol you really made me laugh.
Haha!! You made me laugh, too! 😀
I love your article! I can totally relate with everything you said from the diy stuff to the undone dishes.

Although i haven’t tried making any diy makeup… im all about ingredients! I see so many others still automatically going straight to the designer brands & then complaining about their skin. Which is why i decided to start blogging myself. Ive made my own diy exfoliator & mssks for many many years & i find they work better than most ones i could easily buy. However, its our skin. We should all know exactly what the ingredients are, that we are applying to our skin.
So thank you so much for posting this!!
